The Young Leaders Playbook: Day Thirty — Be
“Before I can tell my life what I want to do with it, I must listen to my life telling me who I am.”
― Parker J. Palmer
There is only one you. Figuring out who you are takes courage — the willingness to break free from the status quo. It requires loosening your grip on what you think your life should look like and paying attention to the environments, tasks and people that you enjoy. They are a window into your own soul. Connect those dots, and you’ll be well on your way to discovering who you really are. And, in that there is true freedom. Freedom to be yourself. Freedom to stop people-pleasing. Freedom to go your own way. Freedom to commit to who and what your truly love. You have to cultivate eyes to see and ears to hear, so that your heart can understand and know what is real and what is fake. Most of the world’s pain is a result of people not knowing who they really are. Hurting people hurt others. Don’t be like one of them. Know yourself. Be yourself. You won’t be fulfilled until you’re the real you. So, stop making excuses. Start listening and living from the inside out. And, keep on this path. This is your life.
Am I the real me?
Today I will put these words into practice. I won’t run from myself anymore. No. Today I will open my eyes and ears so that I can listen and see with my heart. I will be me.
I will be.
