What to do when life isn't working out the way you want it to.

Hi again, you gracious and gritty champion...

Life is not a series of upward steps towards some blissful state of non-resistance where birds chirp in the background as you gallop heroically towards the horizon on your trusted steed having slain your personal demons and conquered every foe who stood in your path.

Life is brutal. Challenging. Trying. And, excruciatingly difficult at the very best of times.

Most of life does not work out the way you want (or expect) it to.

Not only that but a lot of the time the very people who are meant to help you end up not offering any real kind of assistance at all. On the darkest of days, it can seem like life is ripping apart at the seams. And, you find yourself spinning out of control, feeling worthless, lonely, and afraid.

What you choose to do when you find yourself at this moment will either make or break you.

The best thing you can do is to stop. Take a step back. Check yourself. And, then focus on taking care of yourself.

Your only shot of moving forward in a healthy way is to focus on yourself.

You see, when the proverbial sh** hits the fan, your options are limited. Heck, you may not even know what your options are. But, you can always take care of yourself...

And, spiritually.

It's best to keep it extremely simple in chaotic times. Focus on things like taking a nap. Eating something. Drinking some water. Going for a walk.

Whatever you do, don't immediately jump right back into the fray. Busyness is another form of avoidance. And, distraction is exactly what it says: dis - traction. Activity does not equal movement.

You're better off sitting still in a safe place in the middle of the tornado than you are trying to outrun the storm.

Stop. Look. Listen. And, then move accordingly.

Here's to keeping it simple...
