What's an hour of your time worth?

Ni Hao, you amazingly gifted one-of-a-kind soul...

Two phrases you need to stop using today which are both destroying your ability to be a productive and useful adult:

  1. "I don't have enough time."

  2. "I need to make time to do (you fill in the blank)."

Both are lies from the pit of hell. They are fixed-mindest jargon espoused by people who are too lazy to take control of life. And, who have no idea what their time is actually worth.

This is not you, amigo. Nope. You're too smart to believe this kind of limiting rubbish.

Let me ask you a question: What's an hour of your time worth?

Seriously.

Have you ever stopped to do the math(s)?

I sometimes have to charge by the hour. So, I know down to the nickel what an hour of my time is worth.

But, for our little conversation here, let's assume you make $100,000 a year. This means an hour of your time is worth $48.07. This is about 10 coffees. Or, a nice bottle of wine. Possibly an above-average dinner out depending on where you go.

Let me ask you another question: How much time are you giving away for free or simply wasting?

Is it two hours a day? Four? Six? Eight?

Let's do the math(s)...

If you give some time-vampire who repeatedly takes advantage of your expertise and special talent two hours of your time over coffee you've just written them a cheque for $96.14 of value. Which you can double because you'll never get those two hours of your life back.

Yep.

That friendly cup of coffee just cost you $192.28.

Maybe you're wasting time watching Netflix.
Maybe you're wasting time on shallow work which distracts you.
Maybe you're wasting time stalking your favorite celebrities on Social Media.

However you slice it, your time is extremely valuable.

I know, I'm being a bit harsh today. But, somebody needs to wake you up to what you're doing to yourself.

Stop wasting your time on people, projects, or pursuits which are stealing from you. There's a negative ROI on your time. And, unless you have a money tree hidden in your backyard, you should think twice before wasting another minute of your precious time.

Put a stake in the heart of the time vampires who keep taking from you and never giving anything of real value in return.
