Alles klar, you seriously talented fool...
One of the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to finding a job they love, especially in the early years, is they don't take the time to know themselves first.
They jump feet first into the deep end without asking a few simple self-awareness questions, like:
What are my strengths and weaknesses?
What are my non-negotiable values?
How am I wired to succeed?
Is this (company/product/service/person) something I actually believe in?
Will I have an opportunity to learn and grow?
What are my real expectations?
Maybe you can relate?
Let me cut to the chase: if you don't know who you are, you'll never be satisfied.
Not at work.
Not at home.
Not vacationing on some tropical-postcard-island.
The real reason you're unhappy, dissatisfied, frustrated, unfulfilled, etc is not because of anything external. It has nothing to do with what's happening around you. Not your job. Not your boss. Not your girlfriend or boyfriend or spouse or lack thereof.
The real reason you're unhappy and unfulfilled is you haven't done the hard work and heavy lifting on the inside. You can't skip past the inner journey.
To be absolutely clear:
Everything meaningful in life starts from your inside and works its way out.
So many people run around looking for the next (external) thing to make them happy. A promotion. A new this or a new that. And, the story always ends the same way. Coming back to where you started and looking inside for answers.
Because you'll never be fulfilled without:
Clarity of purpose.
A unique voice.
And, knowing what you're worth.
Happiness is a byproduct of choosing, knowing, and developing yourself. But, you have to do the work.
Shortcuts and life hacks don't work when it comes to self-awareness.
