Overcoming the broken record playing in your head.

G'day you beautiful and savvy legend...

Below is an excerpt from my first book, The Asymmetrical Leader:

One of the fastest ways to change your life is to change your inner narrative. Communication is not just an external dialogue, it’s an internal monologue that is on replay in your mind. There is a certain storyline you have subconsciously chosen to live by. You have chosen to see yourself in a certain light and that thought pattern is shaping who you are and what you believe is possible in your life. It is shaping the words you speak to yourself. Words matter. Words have power. Words are the expression of thoughts, feelings and deeply held beliefs. The words you use reveal what you truly believe about yourself, and what you believe about others.

I genuinely believe that you have a broken record playing over and over in your head...

For some of you reading this, it's not even your own voice...

It's the voice of some hurting soul who simply wanted to hurt you too. Pain is generational in that sense. That past hurt is a record that keeps spinning and spinning and spinning...

At least, that was my story...

My advice to anyone struggling with overcoming negative thought patterns is simple:

1. Observe your thoughts...
2. Identify what negative emotion (fear, anxiety, boredom) is behind them...
3. Grab a pen and paper and write about it...
4. Find a new (positive) record to play...

It sounds incredibly simple, right?

It is...

That is if you take time to do the work.

I encourage you to try it out today...

The next moment you catch yourself going dark, shine some light on your negativity by taking twenty minutes to go through the four simple steps above.

Or don't...

And keep believing a lie that someone else told you about yourself a long long time ago.

Einstein called this type of living insanity...

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.

If any word, phrase or sentiment in today's post resonates with you then should probably take action...

My good-hearted friend, even the smallest step in a different direction creates change.

So, break the negative record in your head. Today.

Here's to living a different kind of life...
