Steverino picks a fight with his biggest enemy...

Hello hello you brilliant soul you...

Way back in the 2nd grade a friend of mine was being bullied. So, being the compassionate and loyal friend I am, I stepped in and put a beat down on this insecure mouth-breather. To be exact, I tackled him and punched him right in the face. Twice.  I know, I know...violence is not the answer. But, man did it feel good. And, the knuckle-dragging bully didn't mess with my friend again. My little display of courage wound up costing me two weeks on the log (a primitive form of 'time-out' before it was a real thing). Watching my friends play during recess for two whole weeks taught me something important...

If you're going to pick a fight, it better be worth the consequences.

That's the funny thing about fighting - you have to be willing to roll up your sleeves and get dirty.

Fast forward 32 years later and I'm fully aware of my playground days.

Except now, my enemy isn't some bully picking on a weaker kid...

Nope.

My real enemy is inside of me. It's a big ferocious beast of a villain called...

Self-rejection.

Yep.

I only need to look in the mirror to come face-to-face with the only person on the planet who can stop me from being a quality human being...

My best self...

A hero to others.

And, if you're reading this, then you know I'm telling the truth.

It's not your mom that's holding you back.

It's not your boss.

It's not the president.

It's not some ghost from Christmas past.

It's you.

And, the sooner you come to grips with the fact that you are your own worst enemy, the sooner you can start living life on a different level.

It's sobering.

And, so worth the fight.

Believe me, I've been right where you're at today. I've faced my demons (I sometimes still do). And, I've punched self-rejection right in the face...more than twice.

If you need a bit of help, I'd love to talk...

Just reply to this email.

If you aren't ready for that kind of conversation and accountability, don't rush it. But, do your future self a solid and take 15 minutes to reflect on how your fear is holding you back today. Pen and paper required.

Here's to living in freedom...
