Steverino's brilliant advice for dealing with haters...

G'day amigos...

Yesterday I got a bit of hate-mail on the ole interwebs in my inbox...

I know...nice little ole me, right?

One person in particular (who I helped in a big way about 3 years ago) sent a response to one of my posts about killing your inner-nice guy. Apparently, I struck a nerve. After reading the lovely and sometimes accurate, five paragraphs about how I was wrong...lost...and completely off. I sent the individual a thank you note in response. In it, I acknowledged their take on the issue and let them know how grateful I was for their perspective and insight.

And, I got no response...

Yet, anyways.

You see my friend, I've learned a thing or two about taking a stand on issues you care deeply about...

For starters, it's polarising. Some people are gonna love you (your tribe) and some people are simply going to hate whatever it is you're trying to communicate.

I see this over and over with leaders who are striving so hard to be liked, that they lose their ability to be respected. My simple advice: seek to be respected first and you might be liked. But, if you get it the other way around you're gonna be fighting an uphill battle...

Especially, with your peers.

Anyways, back to my point...

The best way to deal with haters is to thank them. They can't stand it and it confuses the hell out of them.

When you do it, don't be arrogant or rude. Be kind. Honest. And, gracious...

Who knows, you might make a dent in their whole 'Us vs Them' fixed mindset.

Here's to killing 'em with kindness...
