Steverino on surviving a psychopathic boss...

G'day champion...

Research tells us that up to 3% of business leaders are psychopaths. This is three times the average you'll find in the general population. It turns out that charisma, lack of a conscience and having an ability to talk your way out of anything can get you ahead in the business world.

It'd be great if you could tell who's who, like if every psychopath walked with a limp or wore a flashing 'P' on their chest, but they don't...

You can, however, be on the lookout for a few things:

1. Manipulativeness - they like to constantly turn things in their favour...
2. Aggressiveness - they like to dominate people and situations...
3. Insensitivity - they rarely care about anyone else but themselves...

If you find yourself being managed or employed by a psychopath my simple advice to you is this:

Hit the eject button.

Don't stop...

Do not pass Go...

Do not collect $200...

You have a better chance of navigating the Bermuda triangle in a swiss-cheese canoe than you do getting them to change...

If you find yourself in this unfortunate situation, it's better to cut your losses and start looking for a new gig.

And, if you need a bit a help navigating this kind of a mess, please reach out. I'd love to help.

Statistically, dozens of people reading this have psychopathic tendencies. If that's you, please reach out as well.

I believe anyone can change if they seriously want to...

I'd love to help you rediscover an empathetic approach to living and leading...

If it goes deeper than that for you, I'd be happy to refer you to a handful of professionals I know who can get you the help you need to turn things around.

Here's to happier and healthier work environments...
