Here's my short list of book recommendations (in no certain order of importance) for any studious soul out there looking to better your leadership skills...
The Leadership Challenge by Kouzes and Posner. I consider this the Bible of Leadership, and you'll learn the key five principles every new (and old) leader must practice and master.
Primal Leadership by Daniel Goleman. Probably the best topline view of Emotional Intelligence and how you can develop this critical leadership skill.
The 48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene. A proverbial guide to navigating leadership and life and why certain situations work out the way they do and what you can do about them.
Models of My Life by Herbert Simon. For the leader out there who feels like a Jane of All Trades, this great read will help you understand how you can succeed in an age of specialization.
The Emperor's Handbook by Marcus Aurelius. Timeless principles and nuggets of wisdom every serious or aspiring leader should know.
Letters From a Self-Made Merchant to His Son by George Lorimer. A brilliant collection of letters from a millionaire to his young son on success, life, and leadership.
On Becoming A Leader by Warren Bennis. An all-time classic collection of interviews from leaders across industry.
Wooden On Leadership by John Wooden. Hands down one of the best sports coaches of all-time, this book is filled with stories and principles you can immediately apply to your life and work.
Steal Like An Artist by Austin Kleon. This creative book will refine your knowledge, skills, and experience and challenge the way you add value at work.
The Seasons of Life by Jim Rohn. Another simple read, with deep wisdom for the leader out there looking to better yourself in whatever season you find yourself in.
I believe like most people today you probably consume more information than you can implement in a lifetime. Which is why I carefully chose the ten books above.
I've given away countless dozens of copies of the books on this list to my clients over the years. I'd encourage you to pick the one which struck your fancy the most and start there. Read it and reread it. And, apply what you learn to your life and business.
